Project: Diocese of Durham, Cuthbert House, Stonebridge
14 July 2016
Napper Architects collected the award for Best Small Commercial Building at the LABC Northern Awards on 8 July. Cuthbert House provides new headquarters for the Diocese of Durham following their relocation from Auckland Castle after a residency of over 1000 years.
Whilst providing new offices to suit their 21st Century needs, the Diocese welcomed the inclusion of symbolism within the design proposals, including the three sided plan form, representing the Holy Trinity and the celebration of the Cross in the timber roof structure.
Dawn McQuillan, Chair of LABC Northern Region, said: "These awards are an opportunity for us to celebrate the very best construction in the north of England, recognising the high level of skill and professionalism the building industry is capable of reaching."
The project will now go through to the Grand Final to be held in London in November.
